The Genesis G70 and G80 are a pair of midsize luxury sedans designed to provide on-road opulence at a price that’s tough to beat. If you’re shopping the brand, you’re probably wondering about the differences between these luxury sedans. Come with us as we take a closer look at each model.

Price

The G70 is Genesis’s entry-level luxury sedan. As such, it puts a lower price on high-end driving, with an MSRP range that starts at $37,525 and ranges upwards of $54,500.

Genesis hasn’t announced exact numbers for the upcoming G80, but we don’t think those numbers will change much from last year, when the MSRP range started at $47,700 and ranged upwards of $64,250.

Exterior Style

The Genesis G80 was completely redesigned for 2021, and its suave new exterior design attracts attention with a huge, shiny grille and slashes of LED lighting. For 2022, the Genesis G70 was also updated, and now both sedans feature the same ultramodern exterior design.

As the more expensive luxury cruiser, the G80 also comes standard with a lot more high-end features, including a hands-free power liftgate and power-folding side mirrors. Such features are optional for the G70.

Interior Luxury

Similarly, both sedan cabins are accommodating and luxurious, but the G80 is the Genesis that comes with more features. Both models include heated front seats and a 12-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar support.The G80 adds adjustable ambient interior lighting and heated second-row seats to its standard list of features.

Of course, you can always add more interior comforts to the G70. Options for both sedans include leather seat trim, ventilated front seats, and a swanky microfiber suede headliner.

Performance

Both luxury sedans feature two engine options. Under the G70 hood, you’ll find a standard 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine (252 horsepower, 260 pound-feet of torque). For more speed, there’s an optional 3.3-liter turbocharged V6 engine (365 hp, 376 lb-ft). Both engines use an eight-speed automatic transmission to power the rear wheels, effectively creating a very sporty drive. And all-wheel drive is optional, supplying extra traction on soft or slippery surfaces.

The Genesis G80 offers an even more powerful drive. The base engine is a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder (300 hp, 311 lb-ft). And the optional turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 (375 hp, 391 lb-ft) is even more fun. Like the G70, the G80 sends power to the rear wheels via an eight-speed transmission. And all-wheel drive is available for either engine.

Tech and Safety Features

Here, these Genesis luxury sedans have more in common than not. In spite of being the lower-priced model, the G70 is nicely stocked with tech and safety gear. It’s got a big, 10.25-inch infotainment touch screen and navigation. And the 8-inch color LCD multi-information display acts as a configurable gauge cluster.

The Genesis G80 also includes an 8-inch LCD cluster display. However, it comes with a slightly bigger 14.5-inch infotainment touch screen. The G80 also offers an optional 12.3-inch 3D digital cluster, whose graphics actually appear to jump out at you.

Both luxury cruisers offer premium stereo upgrades, a 15-speaker Lexicon system for the G70 and a 21-speaker Lexicon system for the G80. You can also add a wireless smartphone charging pad to either sedan.

And both come standard with an inclusive list of driver safety aids, from lane keeping assist to forward collision avoidance. And Genesis’s smart cruise control system, which includes stop-and-go technology, is also standard for both models. The G80 version of the smart cruise control system also includes machine learning, creating a smoother performance that’s based on your day-to-day driving.
