Both the 2020 INFINITI Q50 and Genesis G70 put a friendly price on upscale cruising. But which of these luxury sporty sedans gives you more of what you want? Our comparison guide takes a closer look at each model.
Spacious Cruising: 2020 INFINITI Q50
Both sporty luxury sedans combine a flashy performance with rich interior comfort. But the Q50 takes the lead here, setting you up with optional leather upholstery and plush seating cushions as well as generous passenger space in both rows. While the Genesis G70 does offer a range of classy features, it’s hard to get over the fact that the backseats are so cramped.
Modern Luxury: 2020 INFINITI Q50
When you’re shopping for a luxurious ride, the Q50 doesn’t disappoint. Inside, you’ll find an abundance of high-end materials and a very stylish fit and finish. The standard power-adjustable front seats and keyless entry and ignition put a modern spin on upscale driving.
Inside the Genesis G70, the first thing you’ll notice is its clean, tasteful style. Although the cabin’s finish is pretty solid, some interior materials aren’t as high-end as they could be. In this respect, the G70 is more like an upscale Hyundai than a true luxury sedan.
Onboard Technology: 2020 Genesis G70
When it comes to infotainment experience, the G70 system is our first choice. It’s simple but easy to use, and it’s quick to respond to your requests. As you might expect, the system comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities, making it easy to use your phone as you cruise the highway. We also appreciate this luxury sedan’s safety aids, which are also quick to react and pretty reliable, notifying you of danger without going overboard.
The 2020 INFINITI Q50 infotainment system features dual touch screens, which is cool, but some drivers may take longer than others to figure out how to use the system. Luckily, you can switch to the Apple CarPlay/Android Auto interface for a more streamlined user experience. We like the Q50’s adaptive cruise control system, but some other safety aids, like front collision warning, can be on the sensitive side.
Premium Power: 2020 INFINITI Q50
For a luxury sport sedan that’s raring to go, choose the Q50. With its two powerful engine options, it’s ready to leave the Genesis G70 in the dust. Most trim models feature a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 that sends you speeding onto highways with 300 horses and 295 pound-feet of torque. The performance-based Red Sport model is even more desirable. This Q50 increases engine output to 400 horses and 350 pound-feet of torque. And every Q50 is available with all-wheel drive, performance gear that creates an even sportier ride.
Under the Genesis G70 hoods, you’ll find one of two engines. In 2.0T trim models, a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine makes 252 horses and 260 pound-feet of torque. The top-trim 3.3T is a little sportier, with a turbo 3.3-liter V6 that turns up the heat slightly with 365 horses and 376 pound-feet of torque. In the end, though, the Q50 will beat the G70 in a race.
The 2020 Genesis G70 is a class-act, but the 2020 INFINITI Q50 delivers much more of what you want in a luxury sport sedan. To see what we mean, drop by Gregory INFINITI, your Libertyville, IL dealership.
